"Avid switches on new solution by Complete"
Complete Telecom, one of Irelands leading independent Telecom and Network Service Professional companies, has announced the completion of a significant technology upgrade for Avid Technology, the world leader in digital media creation tools for film, video, audio, animation, games and broadcast professionals.
90% of primetime television shows, 85% of feature films and 80% of commercials are made using Avid products.
Increasing requirements and advances in digital media meant that Avid’s existing LAN switches, particularly those at the company’s two primary European sites in Dublin and Pinewood Studios in the UK, were being tested to the limit and in need of upgrade.
“The existing switches were at the end of their life and were no longer supported by their vendor so we needed a more modern and robust solution. We looked at many options and opted for a solution proposed by Complete because we trusted them,” says Paul Reid, European IS manager for Avid Technology,
“Complete’s pricing was up to 30% more competitive than other vendors on hardware, and maintenance was 50% less for a higher specification. Adding all that up, choosing Complete wasn’t a tough decision.”
Pinewood Studios and Avid’s manufacturing facility in Sandyford, Dublin, are linked via a Wide Area Network connection. Over a three-month period, Complete worked with Avid to replace the networks connecting both locations, as well as implementing Enterasys Matrix Power over Ethernet switches and upgrading VoIP telephony in both sites.
Combined, the LAN network and VoIP upgrades now securely support the computer and telephony requirements of over 200 staff at Avid’s Pinewood, in the UK, and Dublin.
“We are delighted that Avid is entirely happy with the results of the project, both from an operational and fiscal perspective. The entire project was completed successfully in only three months with no disruption to everyday workflows and a very smooth switchover with no data transfer or business continuity issues,” says Didier Lebret-Renault, chief technology officer of Complete.
